Headaches

A headache is a very common condition where pain is experienced in the head or upper neck region. This condition can come from any number of sources: excessive stress, an injury such as whiplash, long-term poor posture issues, and even poor nutrition. Within headaches alone, there are various types of headaches an individual can experience including, tension headaches, cluster headaches and sinus headaches. The most common of the three, tension headaches, are mild to moderate in pain and can be described as constant pressure or tightness. Cluster headaches are more intense and severe pain that often recurs with specific activity or frequency. Lastly, sinus headaches cause pain and pressure in the sinus areas of the head including, the forehead, cheeks and nose. This type of headache is usually caused by sinus congestion or a sinus infection.

Dr. Michlin spends time getting to know each patient so he can understand the underlying reasons for the pain. Once he evaluates your condition, he will tailor an individual care plan to remove the underlying cause of your headache.

Migraines

Migraines are more debilitating headaches that can greatly affect an individual’s daily life. This condition is characterized by severe, throbbing pain that will often be accompanied by other symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and sensitivity to light and or sound. The intense pain can vary from lasting for a few hours to lasting for weeks.

What is the Atlas Orthogonal Technique?

At Back To Health Family Chiropractic, we understand that it can be very frustrating for people who experience recurring headaches and migraines. That is why we utilize the Atlas Orthogonal technique. Atlas Orthogonal chiropractic care removes interference which can alleviate the root cause of the problem.

The Atlas Orthogonal technique is a painless and effective procedure which promotes proper nerve function by correcting the position of the Atlas (C1), the first bone in the spine. When the Atlas is misaligned, it restricts blood flow and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) motion to the brain and spinal cord. This restriction results in inflammation and pressure around the nerves. The increased pressure and decreased blood flow and CSF can irritate the nervous system, resulting in headaches and migraines.

What is the Atlas Orthogonal Precisions Adjusting Instrument?

To adjust the Atlas, Dr. Michlin utilizes an instrument called The Atlas Orthogonal Precision Adjusting Instrument, which was invented by Dr. Roy W. Sweat in 1981. The instrument delivers a gentle percussive force to align the Atlas in relation to the head and the cervical spine. Prior to the adjustment, Dr. Michlin takes very specific upper cervical X-ray images. After analyzing the images to determine the exact vectors for the adjustment, Dr. Michlin positions the instrument to deliver the appropriate adjustment. When correct atlas alignment has been restored, disruption of the nervous system is removed. This also removes restriction to blood flow and cerebrospinal fluid motion, which often reduces or eliminates the pain from headaches or migraines.
