How Our Chiropractor in Fort Worth Treats Rib Pain

Are you suffering from rib pain? If so, it’s natural to feel frustrated with conventional approaches to care. Many medical providers take a “wait and see” approach or recommend medication to minimize pain symptoms. Unfortunately, a “wait and see” approach and medication won’t address the root cause of pain. Worse, depending on the location of your rib pain, it could later be confused with heart disease or gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). This can lead to unnecessary treatments that never address the real cause of your pain.

Dr. Chris Michlin is the only chiropractor in Fort Worth who is the only Board Certified Atlas Orthogonist in North Texas. He provides atlas orthogonal and/or activator adjustments to address rib pain.

3 Things You Need to Know About Rib Pain

1. Ribs are connected to the spine and sternum.

The rib cage includes the sternum (breastbone), the 12 thoracic vertebrae and 12 pairs of ribs. Each rib forms two joints with the thoracic spine in the mid-back. If one or both of these joints becomes restricted, you may experience pain in the chest or the back or a radiating pain sensation from the ribs.

2. Back pain could be a symptom of rib joint restriction.

Common symptoms of rib joint dysfunction include pain in the back, typically underneath the scapula or shoulder blade. You may experience sharp pain when breathing, especially inhaling or pain sensations that “wrap” from the chest to the back.

3. Atlas orthogonal adjustments can help relieve rib pain.

The spine is like a chain-link fence. If a single vertebra is out of alignment, this misalignment can impact the entire spine. This includes the joints that connect in the mid-back with the ribs. Atlas orthogonal adjustments are designed to bring correct alignment back to the spine. Adjustments from our chiropractor in Fort Worth may help to address joint restriction in the thoracic spine and where the anterior joints connect with the sternum. Dr. Michlin also uses an activator for rib adjustments. With the activator, he is able to adjust right at the sternum, at the spinal column, and around the entire rib cage for an immediate alignment.
